Length: Depending upon grade and type of presentation - from 30 to 60 minutes.

Audience Size: Assembly programs limited to 150. Hour-long writing classes are limited to 25. In-service and family programs can accomodate any number.

About the Program: Each of my day-long visits is tailored to a school's schedule, calendar and curriculum. I begin with a story time for kindergartners. I then offer 2-3 large assemblies when I talk about my work, answer questions about my books and writing and show a video presentation of one of my picture books. During lunch I like to meet with five or six young authors to discuss stories they have written if this work is sent two weeks in advance. In the afternoon I offer two writing workshops for groups of 25 children (4th-8th grade). During this hands-on session, the children focus on writing with detail and characterization. At the end of the day I like to share with the teaching staff some ideas on bringing writing into the classroom.

Also Available: Teacher's workshops, career day events and Young Author Festivals. Multi-day visits to one or more schools can be arranged, up to one week in length. Public library events, book selling and autograph sessions are also encouraged.
